The Little Campbell Hatchery is the first all-volunteer hatchery in British Columbia.

Volunteers giving back

The Little Campbell Hatchery is the first all-volunteer hatchery in British Columbia. The facility was built in 1983 and continues to be maintained by members of the Semiahmoo Fish and Game Club.

What we do

The complex includes the hatchery building and outside rearing ponds for Coho and Chinook salmon, and Steelhead trout. Club members count and identify them by species prior to releasing them to spawn up river. A number of wild Coho, Chinook salmon and Steelhead trout are retained as brooding stock. Over 4,500 spawning salmon are counted annually.

The hatchery complex is open to the public and access to the hatchery building is available when club volunteers are on site.

Teaching future generations

The Semiahmoo Fish & Game Club introduced the “Salmon in the Classroom” program. Under this initiative fertilized Coho eggs from the hatchery are hatched and raised in the classroom by elementary students. Once the salmon reach the “fry” stage the students return them to the hatchery where they release them into the river.   School tours are available.  Please use the contact form below.

We have a purpose

Our society was created with a clear purpose: to care for the Little Campbell Hatchery and share its importance with our community. Here’s what we’re all about:

  • Caring for the Hatchery: We operate and maintain the Little Campbell Hatchery and its facilities in partnership with the not-for-profit Semiahmoo Fish and Game Club.
  • Connecting with the Community: We invite the public to learn about and take part in the hatchery’s activities, which play a vital role in preserving and enhancing fish populations in the Little Campbell River.
  • Inspiring the Next Generation: We’re passionate about education. From tours to hands-on activities, we provide fun and meaningful learning opportunities—especially for school children across the Lower Mainland.
  • Protecting the River: We are committed to preserving the Little Campbell River as a healthy, fish-bearing waterway for generations to come.
  • Building for the Future: We plan to modernize and upgrade the hatchery so it can continue its important work well into the future.

At its heart, our society exists to protect, educate, and inspire—all while ensuring the Little Campbell Hatchery thrives as a place for community, learning, and environmental stewardship.
